Student Life
At the heart of everything we do are our students, their growth, well-being, and success guide every decision we make. From counseling and health services to Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) supports and everyday classroom experiences, our focus is on helping each child feel safe, supported, and ready to thrive. We’re committed to nurturing not only strong learners, but confident, compassionate young people prepared for whatever comes next.
Counseling
We know that a child’s emotional well-being is the foundation for everything they do. From making a new friend on the playground to tackling a tough math problem, our Elementary School Counseling program is here to ensure that every student feels safe, happy, and supported.
Health Services
Our Certified School Nurses work hand-in-hand with parents, staff, and local providers to ensure every child is supported, safe, and ready to learn.
Student Services
Our Special Education and Student Services team is here to ensure that every student has the tools, support, and encouragement they need.
At Howe Elementary, Students SKATE for Success
At Howe Elementary, creating a positive school climate is a shared commitment. Our Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework helps students develop strong social skills, build responsibility, and contribute to a safe, supportive learning environment for everyone.
Our School-Wide Expectations: SKATE
Howe students are encouraged to SKATE throughout the school day by demonstrating four core expectations:
- S - Stay Safe: We look out for ourselves and each other in every part of the school day.
- K - Keep Being Kind: We use our words and actions to make Howe a warm, welcoming place for everyone.
- A - Always Accountable: We own our choices, take responsibility, and do the right thing even when no one is watching.
- T - Totally Trustworthy: We are honest, reliable, and someone our classmates and teachers can count on.
- E - Excellent Every Day: We bring our best to every classroom, hallway, playground, and community moment.
These expectations are taught, modeled, and reinforced consistently by staff across classrooms, common spaces, and school activities.

Recognizing Positive Choices
Celebrating student success is an important part of our PBIS approach. At Howe, positive behaviors are acknowledged in two ways:
- Earn SKATE Coins: Any student making good choices throughout the school day can earn SKATE coins from staff.
- Earn a SKATE Ticket: Students who are consistently modeling the SKATE expectations — day after day — are recognized with a SKATE ticket, honoring their commitment to being an outstanding community member.
Be Celebrated! SKATE ticket recipients receive a ticket to bring home and share with family, are acknowledged on the Howe Morning Show, and have their name and photo displayed in the Skate for Success Display Case in our front hallway.
