We’re excited to kick off another fun and confidence-building spelling season for our students. This year’s Howe Spelling Bee will be held Tuesday, January 27, 2026, with both 4th and 5th grade bees scheduled for the same evening.

Tuesday, January 27, 2026

4th Grade Bee: 4:30 PM
5th Grade Bee: 6:30 PM

Final School-Wide Bee:

Wednesday, January 28, 2026 - after school

Students will have the chance to test their spelling skills in a supportive, encouraging environment, with top 3 winners from each grade advancing to the final school-wide bee the following day.

Howe's Got Talent Show: February 19, 2026

Calling all solos, groups, and virtual/video acts! It's time to sign up to be in this year's show!

Show Date: Thursday, February 19 @ 6:30pm, Mellon MS Auditorium

Mandatory Rehearsal: Wednesday, February 11, arrival starting at 6pm, Mellon MS Auditorium

Please sign up using the Google form below. If your child is in a group, please sign up each child individually. There will be an opportunity to indicate their group name in the Google form.

All acts MUST be 2 minutes or less, please prepare your child accordingly.

There is no need to send a video of your child’s performance if they are planning on a live stage act. We welcome virtual/video acts for any child not comfortable on stage or for talents best shown on screen–this is a great option for participation! Virtual/video acts should also be 2 minutes or less, please use the Google form below to sign up.

Your child can perform as a solo and also participate in one other group act or group virtual performance. No more than one solo permitted.

Please make acts school friendly. There will be NO weapons or practice models of weapons allowed, no exceptions.

At this time, please prepare for one boom mic to be available per act. We do not have multiple boom mics available at our facility. Students in groups should be prepared to share one mic, please adjust speaking and singing parts accordingly.

Calling all 5th graders! We need your help to emcee the talent show! Sign up to introduce your fellow students throughout the show. You can sign up individually or emcee with a buddy. You must be available to attend rehearsal as well as the show.

Good news... Howe is a recipient of the National PTA Healthy Minds grant, sponsored by the New York Life Foundation, and we need your help! For ten minutes of your time to complete this Healthy Minds survey, you will be entered into a drawing for one of four gift cards. The survey will help inform decisions on how to invest the $1,250 award to further enhance our healthy minds program.

Scholastic Book Fair - November 13-14, 2025

Dear families,

Get ready—the Scholastic Book Fair is coming to our school!

The easiest way to let your child shop the Fair independently is by creating an eWallet. It’s easy to set up and easy for others to add funds. You’ll need to set up a new eWallet for each fair, but can transfer unused funds from previous fairs. We also take cash, check, and credit card (and Apple Pay!).

Create an eWallet, and you’ll also have the opportunity to contribute to Share the Fair - the giving program that supports students at our school who need help buying books. Consider participating so that no child leaves the Fair empty-handed!

Here’s everything else you need to know about the Book Fair:

Dates: November 13 - November 14, 2025

Location: Howe Gym; 400 Broadmoor Ave

Student Shopping Schedule: Students will shop with their classes during the school day on Thursday.

Family Shopping Schedule: 4:15 PM - 8:00 PM Thursday & 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM Friday

Sunny Funny Fair

The Sunny Funny Fair is our biggest FUNdraising event of the year! The grounds around Howe are transformed into a carnival, with over 40 games, activities, craft stations, cake walk. Kids play games to earn points that can be cashed in for prizes, and food is available for purchase. This event is open to the entire family and surrounding community.

Spirit Center is a PTA sponsored store run by Howe 5th graders. Sales occur twice monthly during lunch recess.

Prices range from $0.25 to $3.

Spirit Center begins in the winter.

5th grade Shirts

Free for each student provided by the 5th grade committee. Additional shirts are available for $10 each.
